The Great Migration, an Annual Spectacle for Our Eyes

enero 21, 2019

The phenomenon of the Great Migration is undoubtedly an excellent reason to visit Africa, and in particular, Masai Mara. It is one of the main attractions of this beautiful area where Enkewa Camp is located.

It occurs annually between July and October. During this period, thousands of animals undertake one of the most important migrations on the planet. Its beauty is only comparable to the awe it inspires to witness.

Our location is privileged to experience the Great Migration firsthand. After all, our camp is located in the heart of the access corridor, between the Serengeti and Masai Mara. This allows us to be the first and the last to see it, as we are located on the border with Tanzania.

If you want to indulge in this natural wonder, Enkewa Camp invites you to join us. There is no better place to see it privately! You will be amazed and enjoy a spectacular, gigantic, and magnificent show.

We are located just an hour’s safari from the Mara River, which allows us to be on the front lines when the river crossing occurs.

The Great Migration in Masai Mara

But what causes this massive migration? We are talking about different nomadic species in search of water and fresh pastures. Wildebeests and zebras (along with other herbivores) are the main protagonists. In fact, it is estimated that the number of animals migrating from the Serengeti to Masai Mara reaches two million.

Moreover, the Great Migration also causes predators to stay close to their potential prey, attracting countless of them. For us, it’s a golden opportunity to witness, more frequently, action scenes straight out of a documentary.

The Key Moment of the Great Migration
The Great Migration is the best time to see animals. A safe bet. After all, it is a moment of intense action when thousands of wildebeests, in groups, jump into the river to reach the opposite bank. What’s the danger? Mainly the abundant presence of crocodiles waiting for them at the busiest crossing points.

Witnessing the Mara River crossing during the Great Migration requires experience, which is why, with Enkewa, thanks to our expertise in offering the best photographic safaris in Masai Mara, you can be sure you’ll be at the exact moment and the best spot to observe one of the natural wonders this reserve has to offer.
